What Is Domino QQ?

Domino QQ (also written as DominoQQ or Domino99) is a popular card-based domino game that originated in Southeast Asia. It uses a set of 28 double-six dominoes and is played by 2 to 6 players. The game combines elements of poker-style betting with domino tile mechanics, making it both strategic and exciting.

The Equipment

The game uses a standard set of 28 dominoes, ranging from 0-0 (blank-blank) up to 6-6. Each player is dealt tiles, and the goal is to form the best possible combination from their hand.

How the Game Is Played

Step 1: Placing the Ante

Before any tiles are dealt, all players must place an ante (initial bet) into the pot. This ensures there is always something to play for in each round.

Step 2: Dealing the Tiles

Each player is dealt 3 domino tiles face down. Players may look at their own tiles but must keep them hidden from opponents.

Step 3: First Betting Round

Starting from the player to the left of the dealer, each player can:

  • Bet — place a wager into the pot.
  • Call — match the current highest bet.
  • Raise — increase the current bet.
  • Fold — surrender their hand and forfeit any bets made.

Step 4: The Fourth Tile

Players still in the round receive a fourth tile. This is the crucial card that completes your hand. A second and final betting round takes place at this stage.

Step 5: Showdown

Remaining players reveal their tiles. The player with the highest-valued hand wins the pot.

How to Calculate Hand Values

Hand value in Domino QQ is calculated by pairing your four tiles into two pairs and summing the pips on each pair. Only the units digit of each sum counts. For example:

PairTotal PipsHand Value
5-4 and 3-29 and 59 and 5 = strong hand
6-6 and 5-512 and 102 and 0 = weak hand
3-3 and 4-26 and 66 and 6 = solid hand

The highest possible hand value per pair is 9 (hence the name "QQ" or "99").

Special Hands

Certain tile combinations trigger special wins that beat all standard hands:

  • Four doubles: All four tiles are doubles (e.g., 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4).
  • Six gods (Dewa): All four tiles have a total pip count of 6 or higher on every side.
  • Pure big: Combined pip total across all four tiles is 40 or higher.
  • Pure small: Combined pip total is 9 or lower.

Winning the Game

The player whose paired combinations produce the two highest unit-digit values wins. In the event of a tie, the tile with the higher individual pip count on a single domino is used as a tiebreaker.

Summary

Domino QQ is a fast, social, and strategic game that rewards players who understand tile probabilities and betting patterns. Once you grasp the basic hand-value system, the gameplay feels intuitive — and the special hand combinations add a thrilling layer of excitement to every round.
